Cedar Park City Council authorized the process for a construction contract for the city’s fifth fire station during a Thursday night meeting, which will be last fire station needed to serve all Cedar Park residents when the city reaches full build-out.

The approximately 13,250-square-foot facility will house both Cedar Park Fire and Williamson County emergency medical services personnel, which will be the third Cedar Park station to have space for EMS. The project includes room for one EMS crew, an EMS commander and future space for a second EMS crew, according to city documents.

City staff presented proposals from eight contractors during Thursday’s meeting, and staff recommended Teal Construction Inc. based on its experience constructing fire stations of similar size, scope and complexity.

The City Council approved authorizing a construction contract with Teal Construction in an amount not to exceed $4.4 million, which was $573,000 below the anticipated construction budget, said Randy Lueders, a project manager with the city.

He said the fire station will be funded by 2015 bond election funds, short-term tax notes and through a shared agreement with Williamson County.

Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell said the fifth station should be the last station needed in order to serve city residents at full build-out.

“Let’s go build a fire station,” he said.
