City Council filed for a new trial Dec. 4 to challenge the Travis County tax appraisal system and revive efforts of creating an equitable taxing system.
The original challenge failed when a state district judge dismissed the case Nov. 6. Council approved a resolution Dec. 3 reaffirming its commitment to pursue a tax appraisal challenge. The council voted to take the issue to court May 28 to achieve a fair and equitable system.
If Austin wins the new trial, commercial property appraisals could be changed—thus resulting in more money for the city’s budget.
