Off-duty officers working within Williamson County municipal utility districts, or MUDs, saw changes to their enforcement services agreements beginning Oct. 1.
On Sept. 23, Williamson County Commissioners Court voted to pull the officers off the countys payroll and hire them as independent contractors.
This change actually brings us in line with the way most entities across the state are doing off-duty officer work, and it allows that officer to contract with anybody [independently], Commissioner Cynthia Long said. The only interaction with the county is a contract for the use of a county vehicle.
Affected MUDs include Anderson Mill, Block House, Brushy Creek, Fern Bluff, Meadows of Chandler Creek, North Austin MUD No. 1, Ranch at Cypress Creek, the Teravista MUDs, Vista Oaks, Williamson County MUD No. 1 and Williamson-Travis MUD No. 1.
Off-duty officers working at high school sporting events will see contract changes Nov. 1.
