During its April 29 meeting, Commissioners Court was updated on a program intended to help find jobs for convicted criminals.

The Workforce Development Program is designed to help individuals find jobs using their aptitude, education and skills, said Roger Jefferies, Criminal Justice Department county executive.

The program refers individuals who are not ready for work to partner organizations such as Goodwill Industries and Austin Community College.

Jefferies said 52 employers have agreed to hire ex-offenders. Since February 2013, there have been 126 people in job training or who are employed.
