Commissioners Court approved a resolution Jan. 21 in support of removing the Georgetown Salamander from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services endangered species candidate list.

The resolution also supports the comprehensive conservation and management plan to protect the Georgetown salamander habitats, which Georgetown City Council adopted in December.

This plan shows that locals can work together and can make a difference, Commissioner Cynthia Long said. I applaud the city of Georgetown and everyone involved who have worked together [on this].

USFWS is scheduled to announce its decision on the salamander listing Feb. 22.
