Capital Metro launched a new app and fare program Sept. 21. Officials said the new app, called the CapMetro App, and the Amp fare program will save riders money.

How it works

The Amp card tracks every ride a customer goes on. Once a customer spends the equivalent of a day pass—$2.50—in a day, they will not be charged for rides for the rest of the day. The same goes for monthly rides. Once a customer spends the equivalent of a monthly pass—$41.25— they will no longer be charged for rides for the rest of the calendar month.

The Amp card is available through the new app or at Cap Metro’s downtown transit store located at 209 W. 9th St., Austin.

All passes on the old app, called CapMetro ATX, need to be used before the app is deactivated in November.

What else?

CapMetro launched a new tiered care system called Equifare that’s available for low-income customers or those enrolled in Medicaid. Residents can apply here.

CapMetro also has a program that gives half-price fare to seniors, riders with disabilities, and active and reserve duty military. Residents can apply here.
