As the Zilker Eagle mini train revitalization project moves forward, Lou Neff Road will be closed from July 6 to July 30. The closure means that all parking along the route will be unavailable.

The road closure will allow the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to realign the road and make the track Americans with Disabilities Act Accessible, according to a press release.

With less parking availability near Zilker Park, the Austin Parks Foundation is encouraging park visitors to use alternative forms of transportation by offering complimentary Barton Springs entry with a bus receipt. Riders can either show a physical or app receipt. Capital Metro’s 30 route goes to Barton Springs and Zilker Park down Barton Springs Road.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department plans to begin other updates, including to the train tunnel, railway and the train depot, in July and August. The Austin Parks Foundation announced the train’s new name in April after receiving over 750 community suggestions.

The Zilker Eagle train will be delivered this fall from Arizona when it is expected to run for the first time since 2019.
