A stoplight has been installed in the Mueller Development at the increasingly high-volume intersection of Berkman Drive and Barbara Jordan Boulevard. The traffic signal is set to be activated next week.
A traffic signal warrant study to evaluate whether to install a stoplight at the intersection was completed in December. An engineer with the Austin Transportation Department recommended implementing the traffic light.
"During the review of the intersection our engineers documented long queues of cars trying to get through the intersection and some driver confusion about the all-way, multi-lane stop sign."

Among the reasons cited in the report is vehicle volume at the intersection. According to the report, a total of 16,573 vehicles drove through the intersection on a daily basis in December.
"During the review of the intersection our engineers documented long queues of cars trying to get through the intersection and some driver confusion about the all-way, multi-lane stop sign," said Cheyenne Krausse, public information specialist with the Austin Transportation Department.
The project is funded both by the Austin Transportation Department and the Mueller Development. ATD will contribute an estimated $121,000 while Mueller's portion is still being determined, Krausse said.
She said the original impetus for the project was a community member calling for a traffic signal analysis at the intersection.

35th and Pecos streets
A traffic signal was activated Friday at the intersection of West 35th and Pecos streets near Tarrytown.
Meanwhile, the 35th Street underground electrical service project remains under construction. The contractor began working this weekend on the west half of the 35th and Balcones Drive. Two-way traffic is being maintained during construction, and work will not be done on weekdays, according to the Austin Public Works Department.
More information on the project is available
