On April 10, Ascension Seton announced a $280 million expansion to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas.

Dell Seton Medical Center is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Austin and the surrounding counties, meaning it offers the highest level of surgical intervention, according to the Texas Health and Human Services department.

Construction on the project will start in the summer and open in 2025. No interruptions to current services are expected, according to Ascension Seton officials.

The expansion includes the addition of a third floor on the building facing Red River Street, and the addition of four new stories on the existing patient tower behind that building.

The expansion would add 150 beds and more than 160,000 square feet of space for clinical and outpatient care, including:
  • Six new operating rooms;
  • Inpatient rehabilitation gym;
  • On-call suites;
  • Intensive care unit expansion;
  • Clinical and outpatient space;
  • Neurology, wound and burn care, oncology and abdominal transplant facilities; and
  • Complex digestive health capabilities.
