District Judge Jessica Mangrum approved a petition filed by County Attorney Delia Garza to extend early voting Feb. 25 to 10 p.m.; polling places had previously been scheduled to close at 7 p.m. County voting centers closed an hour early Feb. 23 and opened two hours late Feb. 24 due to cold and icy conditions.
“I appreciate y’all making quick efforts to give the voters of Travis County some additional time given the early closure last night and the late opening this morning,” Mangrum said during an afternoon hearing Feb. 24.
Mangrum also confirmed that both county political parties agreed on the extension.
Feb. 25 is the final day of the county’s early voting period ahead of next week’s primary election March 1. Turnout through the first week of early voting tracked well below Travis County’s most recent March primaries, although an uptick in voters was recorded Feb. 22-23 following the Presidents Day holiday.
