Early voting turnout in Travis County's March primary election is trending lower than in previous years, with just 3.5% of registered county voters having cast a ballot through Feb. 20.
A total of 30,093 county residents voted in person or by mail Feb. 14-20, well below the turnouts recorded over the first seven days of early voting in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
Of the nearly 30,100 ballots cast so far, most—25,728—were cast in person at one of the county's 32 early voting centers. Democrats represent just over 70% of early voters in the county so far, while Republicans made up a 29.8% share.
The 3.5% turnout among Travis County's 859,400 registered voters is tracking below figures recorded in recent March primaries, including the 6.35% turnout recorded through seven days of voting in February 2020. The county's registered voter pool grew by nearly 4.5% since that election, according to the county clerk's office.
Early voting locations are closed Feb. 21 in observance of Presidents Day and will reopen for a final four days Feb. 22-25 ahead of election day March 1. More information on the election is available through the county clerk's website or by calling 512-238-8683.
