February marks the 30th anniversary for the Travis County Center for Child Protection. The center opened in 1989, then called the Travis County Children’s Advocacy Center. The center brings together legal, forensic and other services for children who have been abused and streamlines the process so children only have to share their story with one team. In the past, children would have to share stories of abuse with up to 15 agencies, according to a press release from the center. The Driskill turned 135 years old Dec. 20. The iconic downtown Austin hotel originally opened Dec. 20, 1886, according to a press release. Jesse Driskill purchased the lot at the corner of Brazos Street and Pecan Street, now Sixth Street, for $7,500 in 1884, according to the hotel’s website.
