Local nonprofit Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, or HAAM, hosts its annual, citywide HAAM Benefit Day event on Sept. 12.

HAAM provides access to health care for Austin’s low-income working musicians. The benefit day is one of the organization's biggest fundraising events of the year, event Chairman Matthew Long said in a news release.

Clubs, restaurants and retail stores will host hundreds of music showcases and concerts throughout the city for the event in an effort to raise awareness and money for HAAM, the news release said.

“Showcasing all of this immense talent on one day is a terrifically exciting way to celebrate Austin culture, and HAAM is devoted to making sure this culture is here to stay,” Long said.

Participating venues include Whole Foods Market, Snooze, Whole Earth Provisions, The University of Texas Dell Medical School and Austin Rocks. Some of the musicians scheduled to perform include Matt Kruetz, Eric Tessmer and The Octopus Project. The full schedule is available online.

In July, HAAM board members warned the organization was reaching capacity and could pause enrollment by the end of this year.

HAAM’s funding comes primarily from HAAM Benefit Day and one other fundraising event: Corporate Battle of the Bands. This year, the organization aims to raise $520,000, according to its website.

Presented by Whole Foods, HAAM Benefit Day is a nationally recognized event that is free to the public, the news release said. Participating stores or restaurants will donate up to 5 percent of their daily proceeds to HAAM, and there will be donation boxes at each participating venue.
