Austin Public Works launched the New Longhorn Dam Bridge 30% Design Virtual Open House, which allows the public to access the updated plans for the bridge and provide feedback on whether it is headed in the right direction.

The city of Austin is designing a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge on the eastern edge of Lady Bird Lake. The bridge was a part of the 2020 Mobility Bond, in which Austin voters approved $15 million for funding. The Austin Urban Trails program has since led the design phase of the project.

The online open house will focus on the bridge, its plaza, parkland improvements near Canterbury Street and a brand new underpass at Pleasant Valley Road.

“I look forward to the improved park and trail access this project will bring for those of us living east of I-35,” Council Member Sabino “Pio” Renteria said in a press release. “Our residents need more places to walk and bike safely as Austin continues to grow, and I’m pleased to see this project progressing."

The open house is available 24/7 now through March 24. It will have both English and Spanish view options, and there will be surveys to provide feedback on the bridge design in both languages.

There will be a public virtual meeting on March 9 hosted by Austin’s Art in Public Places program to discuss the art for the project site.

“It’s important to us to hear from the public at this point to ensure we’re on course to deliver the best project possible,” Assistant City Manager Gina Fiandaca said in a press release.
