The Cedar Park Police Department announced the launch of a new online reporting system July 5. The new system was designed to make filing police reports easier and more efficient for the public, and it also reduces the amount of time it takes for reports to be created and filed for nonviolent crimes, according to the July 5 press release.

“We are excited to offer this tool to the community to help streamline the process so citizens can get back to enjoying the ability to live, work and play in Cedar Park,” the department said in the release.

The new system is designed for the community to report multiple types of crimes, including fraud, theft, vandalism and other property crimes. Residents can file a report online by visiting www.cedarparktexas.gov/police, selecting “Contact Us" and clicking “File a Police Report.”

The police department is only able to accept online reports for the offenses listed, which users can view through the online reporting tool. Staff is stressing the importance of carefully reading each description and including all required documents, such as photos, receipts or the department’s Financial Crimes Fraud Packet, all of which may be needed for investigation.

Once the police report is accurately created and it meets the criteria, a case number is assigned. The report will then go through the police department’s records system prior to being assigned to the proper unit for investigation, according to the release.

The Cedar Park Police Department encourages the use of the online reporting system, but the community is still able to call the department’s nonemergency number to request to file a report in person with an officer. Residents are also still welcome to file a police report at the front desk of the police department headquarters.
