The city of Leander has begun flushing and testing water lines in an effort to cancel its boil water notice July 24.

The boil water notice was issued July 18 and affects over 20,000 Leander residents.

The city began its water line flushing July 20 to remove air and debris in the system, according to a July 21 city release. There are three water-flushing phases that are scheduled through July 22, and testing will continue through July 23.

Affected households, businesses and restaurants should follow boil water instructions from the state and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The city encourages residents and businesses to register with WarnCentralTexas for local notifications.

As of July 16, the city is restricting outdoor watering while the city is under Stage 2 of its drought contingency plan, according to the city.
