The city of Leander has issued a boil water notice for several neighborhoods, according to a July 18 news release from the city.

"The approximate area affected includes all water customers within the boundaries east of Travisso neighborhood and west of Toll 183A, including Bryson neighborhood," the news release said.

According to city spokesperson Mike Neu, a power outage at Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant, at
10400 Trails End Road in Leander, during the early morning of July 18—paired with peak water demands over the past several days—created "sharp reductions in water volumes and pressures."

Water service has been reinstated, according to Neu, but water pressure remains below average and may take several days to return to normal, according to the release.

The city released a list of all affected subdivisions, which are listed at the end of this story.

The city recommends those in the affected area follow boil water instructions issued by the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC recommends using bottled water for drinking and food preparation. If unavailable, tap water should be brought to a "full, rolling boil" for at least one minute. Once the water cools, it is safe to consume.

Outdoor watering is also banned in the affected area of the city, according to Neu.

On July 16, the city issued a Stage 2 water restriction, which limits outdoor irrigation for the entire city.

City officials do not know how long the boil-water notice will remain in effect, according to Neu.
