The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved boundary changes as part of a land swap agreement with Leander ISD and Liberty Hill ISD on Nov. 8.

A portion of the Larkspur subdivision will be detached from LHISD and absorbed by LISD. It was discovered in December 2021 that 27 students living in LHISD were erroneously enrolled into Leander schools. The LISD Board of Trustees passed a resolution to allow the students in the Larkspur neighborhood to finish out their school year with the district.

The board of trustees for both districts approved the detachment and annexation of the land earlier this year, with LISD approving a resolution May 19 and LHISD passing a resolution June 20.

“It is basically a land swap between Liberty Hill ISD and Leander ISD to try to make a neighborhood wholly within one of the school districts,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said.

The detachment of the territory is projected to result in a loss of 315 students over time to LHISD enrollment and a loss in total maintenance and operations revenue. However, per-student maintenance and operations revenue will not be affected by the detachment, according to the district. In turn, LSD is projected to add 315 students to its enrollment.
