The marching band at Vandegrift High School in Leander ISD will be performing as one of the five featured bands at the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade hosted in New York City, according to a Sept. 16 press release.

“We are thrilled to be performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York this November,” VHS Marching Band Director Katie VanDoren said in the release. “This is an event we have been looking forward to since the spring of 2020, so needless to say, there has been a lot of buildup for our community.”

Vandegrift’s marching band was initially selected to be a featured performer in 2020 and scheduled to perform in the 2021 Macy’s parade. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the performance was pushed to the 2022 parade.

For the marching band’s NBC spot, they will be performing a medley of "Symphony No. 4" and "1812 Overture" by Tchaikovsky, according to the release. Though the band is looking forward to the performance, band member and VHS junior Mihir Gupta said, there are still some nerves involved.

“Marching in a parade that’s televised everywhere is going to be challenging,” Gupta said in the release. “But as a whole, everyone’s looking forward to playing and marching, and we’re just going to have some fun.”
