Local custom cake designer Bento Bakes opened a brick-and-mortar location in the Anderson Mill area Dec. 14. Founder and baker Jen Bento, who ran her bakery from her own kitchen for four years, crafts intricate, custom cakes out of buttercream frosting and fondant decorations for birthday parties, showers, weddings and other celebrations.

The restaurant will open in the former location of Fuddruckers. The Austin-based eatery's menu is inspired by Nashville hot chicken; offerings include chicken bites, jumbo tenders, chicken sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and homemade pies.

Maroni’s Pizza Kitchen, located at 117 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, opened Nov. 16 in a spot formerly occupied by a Jimmy John’s.
Owner Richard Wilson said Maroni’s serves from-scratch custom pizzas and specialty pizzas, including the Napoletana and the Margherita.
