Williamson County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony May 14, celebrating the beginning of construction on the $90 million administration building that will serve as the new county headquarters.

In a nutshell

The project was approved by the Williamson County Commissioners Court in February 2023, as the county plans to shift operations from the historic Williamson County Courthouse to a new location in Georgetown, located on a 170-acre tract near the corner of Southwestern Boulevard and SE Inner Loop.

The new building will house the Commissioners Court courtroom, Williamson County judge’s office, county tax assessor and collector, county clerk’s records division, county treasurer, county auditor, budget office, and purchasing and public affairs, according to county staff.

The project is being funding by tax anticipation notes dating back to 2021. Tax anticipation notes allow government entities to issue debt and repay with future tax collections.

What else?

Construction for the entire building is expected to be complete by fall 2025, with county services being moved by December 2025, according to Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell.

The property where the new headquarters will be built is already home to the Williamson County Emergency Services Operations Center, the Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and the Williamson County Extension Services.
