The candidate filing period for the upcoming May 4 local elections closed Feb. 16, with both newcomers and incumbents tossing their hats in the ring for seats on Cedar Park, Leander and Liberty Hill city councils.

On the ballot

In Cedar Park, four seats are up for election, with six total applications filed. Incumbents Jim Penniman-Morin and Mel Kirkland are running again unopposed for mayor and Place 2, respectively.

Liberty Hill City Council has three seats up for election. Jacquetta S. Thayer is running for Place 1, Diane Williams for Place 3 and Wade Ashley for Place 5. Each candidate is running unopposed.


A quick note

The city of Liberty Hill is calling a special election May 4 to fill the vacant mayor position, following Mayor Liz Branigan’s resignation announcement in late January.

So far, two applicants have filed for candidacy: Devin Vyner and City Council member Crystal Mancilla.

The filing period for the special election ends Feb. 23.


Staying prepared

The last day to register to vote in the upcoming election is April 4. Early voting will run from April 22-30. Election day is May 4.
