On June 16, the Buda City Council approved a contract to improve the playground at Buda City Park. Construction on the project is set to begin in early October and be completed in December.
The gist
The park’s playground infrastructure, installed in 2020, is now considered a safety hazard due to weather-related wear, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The council approved a layout option that will accomplish multiple objectives for $825,900, including:
Replace the playground with one tailored to children and parents of all abilities
Provide long-lasting recreational infrastructure
Improve accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act
Increase safety and visibility
Enhance adult seating and gathering areas
The approved layout will include:
PIP surfacing throughout the playground area
A playground for ages 2-5 with integrated shade structure
A playground for ages 5-12
An all-age slide with geometric ladder
An all-accessible, inclusive and all-age playground
An all-age accessible merry-go-round
Block wall and drainage additions on the hillside of the splash-pad area
Three shade structures over the 5-12 age playground, splash pad entrance and accessible playground
What’s next
Construction on the park will begin on Oct. 5. The playground will be closed until its projected reopening in December. The pavilion, basketball and volleyball courts, picnic areas, restrooms, BBQ pits and water fountains will remain open throughout the construction process.
