District officials announced Oct. 10 that current Danielson Middle School principal Erika Cruz will take over as ECHS principal.

Danielson MS families will receive a survey to provide feedback on what qualities and characteristics the community hopes to see in its next principal, Cruz said in an email Oct. 13.
"I will work with our incredible assistant principals to ensure there is no disruption to your child's educational experience as I will support both campuses during this transitional phase," she said.
Cruz previously served as principal of Plain Elementary from 2021 to 2023, and prior to joining LISD, served in assistant principal roles in Round Rock and Pflugerville ISDs.
Something to note
The ECHS opened for the 2022-23 school year at Austin Community College's San Gabriel campus. Upon graduation, students receive both a high school diploma and either an associate degree or at least 60 college credit hours.
Students were moved from the campus into district-funded portables next door for the 2024-25 school year after San Gabriel reached capacity.
In May, the LISD board of trustees received an update on the design progress of the ECHS' permanent campus which could include three stories, collaborative learning spaces, science labs, space for extracurriculars and more.
The ECHS campus aims to enroll historically underrepresented students. The deadline to submit an application for the class of 2030 cohort is Feb. 1, and students will be notified of their admission status in March.
