The Leander ISD board of trustees approved the academic calendar for the 2024-25 school year at a Feb. 1 meeting.

The board's vote affirmed the recommendation of district administrators who developed the calendar after receiving community input.

The setup

The 2024-25 academic calendar includes the following features:
  • A short first week of school starting Aug. 14
  • A weeklong Thanksgiving break Nov. 25-29
  • Two weeks for winter break Dec. 23-Jan. 3
  • An early release day at the end of each semester Dec. 20 and May 23
  • Spring break March 17-21, aligning with Austin Community College
  • The last day of school falling before Memorial Day weekend May 23
How we got here

District officials worked to develop the calendar since November by meeting with students, staff and district committees, and garnering community feedback through an online survey and listening sessions, according to a presentation from a Jan. 18 board of trustees meeting.

The district increased the amount of groups it met with by almost 40% and received over 1,000 survey responses, LISD Chief Academic Officer Matt Bentz said at the meeting. A majority of respondents favored several features found in the approved calendar, the presentation showed.

Also of note

The district's spring break is currently set to align with ACC but not The University of Texas, Bentz said. The university's spring break is anticipated to fall from March 10-14, according to the district calendar.

Bentz said it was most important for the district to align with ACC to accommodate thousands of students who take dual-credit classes through the community college.
