What we reported

After starting in a food truck and opening a downtown Austin location, Blenders and Bowls co-founders Kara Jordan and Erin Downing opened a flagship store in West Lake Hills in April.

The restaurant’s menu features fruit bowls and smoothies made with acai fruit imported from Brazil and locally sourced ingredients, including Round Rock honey and Fredericksburg peaches, Jordan said. The menu is also customizable, giving costumers the freedom to create their own combinations. Vegan and gluten-free options are available as well.

The latest

Since April, Blenders and Bowls has been embraced by the community, Jordan said.

Three salads with housemade dressings have been added to the menu, she said. Blenders and Bowls also added a raw treat menu, with items such as superfood energy balls and doughnuts, she said.

Employees have also come up with new innovative combinations and ideas that have made the main menu over the past nine months, Jordan said.

What’s next

Blenders and Bowls will be growing its catering services in 2017 in anticipation of Bee Caves Road construction, which could make it more difficult for customers to reach the storefront, Jordan said.

“We will bring the bowls to you, your office or an event,” she said. “We’ll try to make it as easy as possible to get our food.”
