Houston-based Little Woodrow’s is hosting a grand opening Dec. 11 for its fifth Austin-area location that opened Nov. 25.

The bar, located at 12601 Tech Ridge Blvd., features the brand’s signature wood-paneled walls and large tap featuring 44 beers on draft, many of them local, as well as three cocktails on draft.

The grand opening will feature a variety of specials and food as well as specialty kegs from Uncle Billy’s Brewery, which Little Woodrow’s owners also own.

Customers may order food from Brooklyn Pie Co., which opened in October in the same shopping center.

Little Woodrow’s Tech Ridge is located about 6.5 miles down the road from the brand’s other Parmer Lane location near McNeil Drive. The new spot will cater to the numerous tech companies, including General Motors, as well as growth in nearby neighborhoods.

Little Woodrow’s was founded in 1994 as Woody’s Ice House in Houston as a neighborhood bar for University of Texas alumni. The name later changed to Woodrow’s and then Little Woodrow’s. There are now seven locations in Houston, five in Austin and two in San Antonio. Co-owner Rick Engel said a location is planned for both Dallas and Midland.

“We’re committed not to lose our culture or our roots as we grow,” said Engel, who first started working as a Woody’s Ice House bartender.

Director of Operations Joe Pieczonka said with each location, company leaders aim to keep the character of the different neighborhoods. The Tech Ridge bar includes more metal to complement the tech corridor, he said.

“We have a bigger draft wall and draft cocktails,” he said. “We try to give the customers what we think they want. They’re younger with double incomes and no kids.”

Little Woodrow’s is open Mon.-Fri. 3 p.m.-2 a.m. and Sat.-Sun. noon-2 a.m. Call 512-852-8078 or visit www.littlewoodrows.com.
