The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will consider $237,125 in local park grant funding for a proposed par-3 golf course in Bastrop on Jan. 22.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff are recommending that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission deny the city of Bastrop’s application, according to the Jan. 22 meeting agenda.

The details

The par-3 golf course on a 15-acre site in Bastrop—which would be open to the general public—is among the several Capital Improvement Project requests listed in the city’s proposed fiscal year 2025-26 budget book.

It would be built on city-owned property near Farm Street and Hwy. 95.

Some background

During a Dec. 9 meeting, Bastrop City Council approved a $26,000 contract with the National Golf Foundation—paid for with series 2025 certificates of obligation—for a feasibility study on a par-3 golf course.

It was one of three feasibility studies that the Bastrop City Council OK’d in a single motion.

“Before we embark on the projects, we’re trying to determine if the data even finds that the projects are feasible,” Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino said at the time.

Also of note

Carrillo-Trevino listed some of the closest par-3 golf courses to Bastrop, including:
  • Butler Pitch and Putt in Austin, 26 miles
  • Par 3 at Big Easy Ranch in Columbus, 53 miles
  • San Pedro Golf Course in San Antonio, 83 miles
  • Riverside Golf Course in San Antonio, 85 miles
  • Oak Valley Par 3 Golf Course in Helotes, 88 miles
The outlook

The findings from the feasibility study will be shared with Bastrop City Council at a future meeting.
