Precinct 4 Commissioner David Glass wrote a letter of support to Brian McCall, chancellor of the Texas State University System, on behalf of the Bastrop County Commissioners Court.
“The establishment of a Texas State University presence in Bastrop County would directly strengthen our regional workforce pipeline, provide lifelong learning opportunities for residents and support employers who are investing in our community’s long-term prosperity,” he said in the letter. “It represents the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that keeps Central Texas at the forefront of global competitiveness.”
Glass listed a handful of major employers that call Bastrop County home, including:

Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris has also sent a letter of support to McCall.
“A Texas State University campus in Bastrop would not only serve as a catalyst for workforce development but also as an anchor institution that fosters lifelong learning, supports local industries and uplifts our residents,” he said. “The university’s programs in technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and education align perfectly with the city’s economic priorities and growing industry base.”

Dori Kelley, business attraction, retention and expansion manager for the Bastrop Economic Development Corp., previously cited the Texas State University System’s interest in expanding its footprint in Central Texas.
“Bastrop’s unique combination of historic charm, rapid population growth and economic expansion makes it an ideal location for consideration as a potential satellite instructional center or full campus,” she said in a staff report.
