With less than three weeks remaining to register for the upcoming elections, Bastrop County Elections Administrator Kristin Miles and her team will help residents register and update their voter registration statuses Sept. 17 for National Voter Registration Day.

Election officials will be at the following locations from noon-3 p.m. Sept. 17:Miles said those looking to register or update their information will need the following information:
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • State identification, driver's license or Social Security number; however, no physical identification is required

According to data from the Bastrop County Elections website and the Texas Association of Counties, only 45% of Bastrop County residents were registered to vote as of Sept. 16.

Residents can check their voter registration status on the Texas Secretary of State's website.

According to the Bastrop County Elections website, the following requirements must be met to be eligible to register to vote in the county, including:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a resident of Bastrop County
  • Be at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration application is submitted, and at least 18 years of age on Election Day
  • Not be a convicted felon; however, you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation and parole
  • Not have been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote

While the ability to update voter registration information is available online, registering to vote is not, according to the Texas Office of the Secretary of State website; however, those interested can download the voter registration form and mail it to the Bastrop County Registrar's Office at 804 Pecan St., Bastrop.

Other important dates include:
  • Oct. 21: first day of early voting
  • Oct. 25: last day to request a mail-in ballot
  • Nov. 1: last day of early voting
  • Nov. 5: Election Day
  • Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.: deadline for voters to return voted mail-in ballots
  • Nov. 12: deadline for mail-in ballot voters to cure defects
