In-person vouchers are available for residents throughout Bastrop County to drop off household hazardous waste at a collection event March 15.

The upcoming event is for all household hazardous waste, including:

General household:
  • Household cleaning products that are marked and not leaking
  • Batteries
  • Degreasers
  • Drain cleaners
  • Oven cleaning solvents
  • Polishers
  • Pool chemicals
Paint products:
  • Aerosol paint cans
  • Paints: latex- and oil-based
  • Preservatives: varnish and poly
  • Strippers and thinners
  • Stains
Miscellaneous:
  • Vehicle batteries
  • Herbicides and pesticides
  • Pet products
  • Other types of aerosol cans
What you should know

The event is free for residents of Bastrop and Lee counties, as well as those living in the cities of Bastrop and Smithville, according to the county website.


Everyone must preregister to receive a voucher, which is available in person at the following locations:
  • Bastrop County Development Services Office, 211 Jackson St., Bastrop
  • Smithville City Hall, 317 Main St., Smithville
  • Lee County Annex, 898 E. Richmond St., Giddings

Attendees will be required to show proof of residence with a utility bill or driver's license.

Officials said vouchers will be available to download from the county's website by March 1; however, the event often fills up quickly.
