With the upcoming May 3 elections approaching, Bastrop County residents have fewer than a month left to register to vote.

Some context

According to information from the Bastrop County Elections website and the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, about 59% of Bastrop County residents were registered to vote as of March 3.

Residents can check their voter registration status on the Texas secretary of state's website.

What you need to know


The following eligibility requirements must be met to register to vote in the county:
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a resident of Bastrop County
  • Be at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration application is submitted, and at least 18 years of age on election day
  • Not be a convicted felon; however, you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation and parole
  • Not have been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
Something to note

While the ability to update voter registration information is available online, registering to vote is not, according to the Texas Office of the Secretary of State; however, those interested can download the voter registration form and mail it to the Bastrop County Registrar's Office at 804 Pecan St., Bastrop.
