Bastrop ISD seeks help naming 9th elementary school after Oct. 1 groundbreaking

As part of the ongoing bond projects, the 105,000-square-foot school that broke ground on Oct. 1 is expected to open in summer 2025 in the Adelton subdivision near FM 20 and Hwy. 71.

“This marks the third new campus we’ve opened in just the past three years,” Superintendent Barry Edwards said in a news release. “Before 2022, it had been over a decade since we opened a new school in BISD—Cedar Creek High School back in 2009.”

Founders Classical Academy Bastrop opens new campus location

Founders Classical Academy of Bastrop has moved into their new campus site on Shiloh Road.


What’s new

The new site consists of two buildings, one hosting K-6th grade and the other 7th-11th grade. There is also a new playground and a covered pavilion. Prior to the new campus, the school was meeting in two separate churches in the community since 2021.

The campus opened earlier this fall for the 2024-2025 school year. The school has cultivated a culture under the new buildings where younger and older students can learn from one another, said Headmaster Stephanie Thomas.

Bastrop ISD renews recovery support as student substance use increases

Bastrop ISD trustees renewed an agreement for student substance use and recovery services at the Oct. 15 board meeting. Officials explained that the renewal is necessary as substance use by students continues to grow.

The details

The memorandum of understanding between Bluebonnet Trails Community Services, which provides counseling services, and the district first began in 2022, according to agenda documents.


Some of the highlights of the agreement include:
  • Consultation regarding substance abuse issues, care and/or services
  • Ensuring access to psychiatric and psychological services, in-house or by referral
  • Ongoing coordination between the mental health and substance use providers
  • Weekly progress reports to a designated BISD staff member of students in the program
