A new arrowhead monument installed at Sendero, a 75-acre mixed-use development, is the latest sign of Bastrop’s expanding arts scene.

The three-ton sculpture that Houston-based artist Bobby Bacon designed and erected is visible from Hwy. 71.

Bacon, founder of Tatu Metal Art, has had his artwork featured at a variety of spaces across the world, including Burning Man.

“The arrowhead monument is a statement piece for Sendero—one that honors the land’s history while pointing toward its future,” said Mason Mote, co-founder of developer Pearl River Companies, in a news release. “It embodies the spirit and convergence, exploration and place-making that defines our community.”

The arrowhead monument, crafted in two large sections that were assembled onsite on Nov. 20, is composed of matte black carbon steel and weathering Corten steel, according to Pearl River Companies.

“Designed to be interactive, the structure offers seating, shade and moments of playful exploration, encouraging engagement from all who pass through,” Melanie Chin, a spokesperson for Pearl River Companies, said in the release.
