The Bearded Baking Co. whips up fresh menu for 1st anniversary

One year into their Bastrop journey, owners Wesley Dills and his husband, Adam Lloyd, have curated a new sweet and savory menu at The Bearded Baking Company.

Although they began by offering specially ordered and ready-made baked goods, they added a full savory menu in April to celebrate TBBC's one-year anniversary.

Horsemen Co. offers handmade wares at first brick-and-mortar in Bastrop


Husband-and-wife team Ben and Faith Benitez opened their first brick-and-mortar for Horsemen Co. in February.

The couple opened Horsemen Co. after moving to Bastrop County in 2016, offering their wares remotely. Eight years later, the Benitezes now have their first storefront.

The Benitezes are artists by trade and chose to start a business that would foster their skills.

Comfort Cafe brings homestyle breakfasts to Chestnut Grove Food Court


Comfort Cafe Smithville opened its mobile food truck featuring homestyle breakfasts at Bastrop's Chestnut Grove Food Court April 26.

First National Bank of Bastrop to welcome Stephen Lee as president, CEO after 10-month search

After a 10-month search, locally owned financial institution First National Bank of Bastrop will welcome Stephen Lee in May as the ninth president and CEO since opening in 1889.


The details

Lee brings more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry, with his latest role as acting president and CEO of First Financial Bank in Southeast Texas, according to a news release.

Rue21 will close all 543 stores amid bankruptcy filing, including 50 in Texas

Officials of teen clothing retailer Rue21 recently filed for bankruptcy and announced plans to close all of its stores.


Two-minute impact

The voluntary petition was filed May 2, according to court filings with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Delaware; going-out-of-business sales began popping up the next day throughout its 543 stores across the country.
