The Austin franchise of Arthur Murray Dance Studio first opened in 1947 on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. Since then it has relocated several times, each time moving farther into Northwest Austin.
Franchise owner Dominic DiGesualdo, who has owned the business since 2001, said the move last March to US 183 and SH 45 N from US 183 and Anderson Mill Road has given him an additional 1,000 square feet of space and the ability to hire two new instructors. The new location has also attracted more visibility, he said.
“I had a number of people say, ‘I saw your sign,’” he said.
The dance studio, which has four rooms—three of which are connected via partitions—can also host more events, including weddings, receptions and birthdays.
“We’re getting booked up just about every weekend,” DiGesualdo said.
AMDS typically hosts between 80 and 100 private lessons and more than 25 group classes each week. The studio offers a variety of classes, such as ballroom, country western, Latin, swing, tango and children’s dance.
On Fridays, AMDS hosts a studio party to allow people to try out the studio. It also has a Valentine’s Day dance planned for Feb. 13. Call the studio for more details.
