In January the first tenants in the new Rock Rose entertainment district at Domain Northside will open their doors.
Endeavor Real Estate Group, which is developing the Rock Rose district, envisioned a retail section home to Austin-based businesses.
“We strived to create an eclectic mix of authentic and personality-driven restaurants and retailers on this street that will appeal to both Austin residents and visitors alike, and we truly believe that this vision is coming to life,” Endeavor Principal Billy Osherow said in a news release.

Tarka Indian Kitchen will open its fourth Austin-area location Jan. 8 at 11501 Rock Rose Ave. The fast-casual Indian restaurant serves a variety of curries, kabobs and vegetarian dishes.
Owner and CEO Tinku Saini said he was most drawn to the homegrown restaurants, bars and retailers. It will be a vibrant area with many tenants, including Tarka, having outdoor areas and patios, he said.
Although Tarka does not typically choose locations such as The Domain, he said he is excited to join other Austin businesses such as Kung Fu Saloon, Jack & Ginger’s, Two Hands Coffee and East Side King’s Thai Kun.
“It’s cool to be associated with that class of restaurants and bars,” he said.

Brad Womack, co-owner of
The Dogwood, which will open Jan. 21, said the Rock Rose bar is the biggest project he and his partners Chad Womack and Jason Carrier have done. The two-story bar will have a second-floor patio bar as part of the 9,200-square-foot space.
“We’re very excited; Endeavor has such an amazing vision of a city center, so to speak,” Womack said. “This is a new venture for The Dogwood, and we’re forcing ourselves out of our comfort zone. Hopefully we’ll be able to reach a new demographic.”
The Dogwood will be located at 11420 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 130, and serve a full menu of higher-end Southern cuisine, such as chicken and waffle sliders and pulled pork sandwiches, Womack said. For more information visit www.thedogwooddomain.com.
Two Hands Coffee will open Jan. 17 and serve Nicaraguan coffee, juices, craft beer and wine.[/caption]
Aamil Sarfani is opening his new business,
Two Hands Coffee, on Jan. 17 at 11501 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 118. He contacted Endeavor, which loved his new concept of paying farmers more than double the cost for their fair trade coffee.
On a visit to Nicaragua during college, Sarfani stayed with coffee farmers and learned how much they care for the environment. He decided to build a coffeehouse using a model where 40 percent of the cost of a pound of coffee goes to the farmers.
“As we grow I want my farmers to grow with us,” he said.
Two Hands will also serve fresh-squeezed juices, local craft beer and wine. Sarfani said he is sourcing food from Fricanos Deli and Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery. More information is available at www.twohandscoffee.com.
Jack & Ginger's will open in mid- to late January in the Rock Rose district. It is the first of four Rock Rose concepts to open from brothers Jeff and Darren Van Delden, who also own The Park at The Domain and Somersault Innovative Cocktails.[/caption]
Brothers Jeff and Darren Van Delden, the duo behind The Park at The Domain and Somersault Innovative Cocktails, will open the first of their four concepts,
Jack & Ginger’s, in mid- to late January at 11500 Rock Rose Ave. The Irish pub will have 82 beers on tap, of which about 40 percent will be local. Jeff said the menu features a twist on Irish cuisine, such as braised rib Shepherd’s pie.
The bar is located in the vicinity of The Dogwood, Kung Fu Saloon and Lavaca Street, Jeff said.
“We feel like the tenant mix will complement each other,” he said. “It’s diverse—something for everyone.”
The duo’s other ventures include Saint Genevieve, which will open in mid- to late February. The wine bar will offer a wide selection of wines by the glass or bottle and tapas from cuisines throughout the world, he said. The other two concepts, rooftop bar 77° and dance club The Rose Room, will open later this spring, Jeff said.
“This is the first time anyone has created an entertainment district outside of downtown,” he said. “We’re honored and privileged to be a part of it.”
