A mixed-use development planned for the city of McKinney's nine-acre site will break ground Nov. 7.

During an April 18 city council work session, Robert Shaw with Columbus Realty Partners, the site’s developer, said construction is expected to take roughly 18 months, but the multi-family units will be ready after 12 months, and office buildings will come online soon after that.

“Hopefully we will be leased up by that time, too,” he said. “We have negotiations going on an office building right now and a single tenant looking at space [along Davis Street] as well. We haven’t began to pursue retailers at this time but plan to begin to do so this summer.”

The city of McKinney has been working to solidify plans for the site, located to the south and east of the historic downtown square. During the work session, Shaw presented the council with revised plans for the development, which includes multi-family residential units as well as retail and office space.

Revised plans include specific building heights, a pocket park near Chestnut Square Historic Village and a city-block style street plan.

Shaw said shoppers at the Chestnut Square Historic Farmers Market will have access to the parking lot near the Chestnut Square Historic Village during construction, a request made by Chestnut Square officials who said they fully support the project.
