The Southlake City Council approved a site plan from Mainstreet Investments for a transitional care/post-acute care facility at its Feb. 2 meeting.

The facility will be located at 2540 E. SH 114 and include private rooms to house guests that are in need of a short-stay rehabilitation and therapy facility until they are ready to transition to their homes.

The council had unanimously denied the site plan at its Jan. 5 meeting with council members stating the project was too large for the lot.

At the Feb. 2 meeting the applicant came before the council asking for no variances, but had made several changes to the size of the project.

Changes included reducing the square footage from 69,571 to 68,595, decreasing the number of beds from 102 to 88 and the parking lot spaces from 98-83.

At the meeting there were several residents who spoke for and against the project.

Some residents from the Shady Lane neighborhood spoke in opposition of the project stating it would increase traffic and the entrance and exit of the facility was dangerous. Some residents were also concerned about tree preservation.

Those in attendance that were in support of the project spoke of the need for a post-acute care facility in the area.
