Registration began Dec. 1 for three new divisions of Little League Baseball teams in Leander.

The city of Leander is launching the league, which will begin in spring 2016 and will have Tee-Ball for children ages 4-7, Coach Pitch for children ages 7-11 and Majors for children ages 9-12, the city announced Dec. 1.

The Tee-Ball and Coach Pitch divisions will focus on developing players' baseball skills, and the Majors division will be a competitive league that provides the opportunity for athletes to participate in the Little League International Tournament, which concludes with the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Registration ends Feb. 25 or until the city meets the maximum amount of players it can have per division. Registration can be completed on the city's parks website at www.leanderparks.com or in person at the Leander Parks and Recreations office, 406 Municipal Drive, Leander.

The first day of practice for the spring season will be March 7, and games will begin April 4. Tee-Ball and Coach Pitch teams will play 10 games during the season, which is one game per week. The Majors team will play 16 games during the season as well as a league tournament at the end of the season. Games will be held at the new Benbrook Ranch Park expansion, 1100 Halsey Drive, Leander. The city expects to complete work on the two small little league fields and one larger field by January.

The new league provides an alternative for Leander children who may have previously played baseball for the Cedar Park Youth League.
