Voters decided against Katy ISD's proposed $99 million bond package intended to provide a new stadium, agriculture center and STEM project center, according to unofficial results. About 54 percent of the 16,559 total votes in Harris and Fort Bend counties were opposed to the proposition and 46 percent were in favor of it.

In Harris County 5,368 voters (55 percent) voted against the proposal, 4,454 voters supported it (45 percent), with all precincts reporting.

In Fort Bend County 3,457 (54 percent) opposed the proposition, while 2,903 voters (46 percent) supported it, with all precincts reporting.

Results from Waller County showed a narrow margin of support for the Katy ISD proposal, with 191 votes (51 percent) approving the measure and 186 votes (49 percent) in opposition to it.

The most contentious of the proposed bond projects was the 14,000-seat, $69.5 million, second football stadium complex, meant to better accommodate the activities of the district's seven high schools. The money would have also provided for the construction of a $25 million agriculture facility and a $4.5 million science, math and technology project center.

District officials maintained that they did not expect an increase in the tax rate, often citing the most recent bond, approved in 2010, which was expected to raise the tax rate but ultimately did not. That $459 million bond passed narrowly by a margin of about 3 percent.

In a similar fashion to this year's election, Harris County voters opposed the 2010 measure, 51 to 49 percent. Fort Bend County voters, however, supported the 2010 proposition 57 percent to 43 percent.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
