Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County to begin Magnolia development after land donation

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County announced April 18 a land gift of over 80 undeveloped acres from the Chimenti family at its annual Building Hope Gala.

The nonprofit, which is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, builds homes for qualifying lower-income families and provides home repair services. Habitat Montgomery County also operates a ReStore, which sells furniture at reduced prices to support its homebuilding programs, according to its website.

In its announcement, Habitat Montgomery said the land would be used for 200 new homes as well as green space and a park. The organization is currently completing construction on 129 homes in Cedar Creek in Conroe, according to Habitat board President Wayne Austin.

“[Cedar Creek will be] an investment in 129 hardworking and well-qualified families that will have a safe and affordable place to call home,” Austin said.

Shirelle Chimenti, who co-chaired the Building Hope Gala where the land gift was given, said it was important for her family that “everyone had a place to call home.” Chimenti’s daughter Ashlyn Chimenti previously served on Habitat Montgomery committees, according to the announcement.

“We chose to donate this land to Habitat Montgomery County because they make affordable housing possible for hard-working people in our community,” Shirelle Chimenti said.

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County did not respond to a request for comment on the location of the land gift.
