Multiple candidates filed to run in the May 2 election in Tomball and Magnolia, with numerous contested races that will decide who helps guide growth, budgeting and city services heading into summer.
What’s on the ballot
Tomball voters will decide City Council positions 1 and 5, according to the city’s election information.
Two candidates filed to run for council Position 1, which is currently held by John F. Ford. Ford did not file for re-election.
Two candidates also filed to run for council Position 5, which is currently held by Randall F. Parr, mayor pro tem.
Magnolia voters will vote for a new mayor plus council Positions 4 and 5, according to the city’s posted election information.
Three candidates have placed their hats in the ring for the mayor position, currently held by Matthew “Doc” Dantzer, who is not seeking re-election.
Two candidates filed to run for council Position 4, which is currently held by Brandon Jacobs.
Two candidates also filed to run for council Position 5, which is currently held by Jack L. Huitt Jr.

Election day is slated for Saturday, May 2, with polls open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. The deadline to register to vote is Thursday, April 2, according to the Texas Secretary of State. Early voting is scheduled April 20-25 and April 27-28; hours and locations can vary by entity.
