Bexar Barbecue to begin offering Saturday carryout at new Tomball location

Bexar Barbecue will open for carryout on Saturdays—while supplies last—starting May 9, owner Justin Haecker said.

Haecker said while preordering food online for Saturday pickup had already been available, the restaurant had not previously been open to any customers other than those who had preordered online.

“We are making it more available to the public," he said. "We have had folks pop in on Saturdays as we were serving our customers who had done preorders."

Haecker said the expanded offering is part of his plan to slowly ramp up the business by opening up to more customers gradually.

“Only being open once a week allows us to be logistically and financially conscious,” he said.

Although Gov. Greg Abbott has allowed restaurants to open their dining rooms at 25% capacity, Haecker said it is not yet the right time for Bexar Barbecue to do so.

“As a restaurant, your first few months are pretty tough and you have to be cognizant of putting your best foot forward as that is your first impression and reputation,” he said.

Haecker said as the coronavirus situation is fluid, he currently expects to have a soft opening by the beginning of June.

For now Bexar Barbecue will continue to take preorders online as well as be open for pickup and carryout customers on Saturdays.
