A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, funded by the Montgomery County road bond as well as other projects from the Texas Department of Transportation. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Upcoming projects
1. Lake Woodlands Drive at Gosling Road intersection improvements
Project: The project will extend turn lanes from eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto northbound Gosling Road. It will also extend turn lanes from westbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto southbound Gosling Road.
Update: Engineering design was complete in early December, and utility coordination was underway early this year, Precinct 3 officials said.
Timeline: Construction will begin early this year.

2. Research Forest Drive at Gosling Road turn lane extension
Project: The project will extend dual left-turn lanes from westbound Research Forest Drive to southbound Gosling Road. They will also be extended from Gosling Road to Research Forest Drive in both directions.
Update: Engineering design was complete, and utility relocation was upcoming as of February, officials said.
Timeline: Construction will begin this spring.

3. Woodlands Parkway at Kuykendahl Road turn lane extension
Project: The project will add a left-turn lane and extend lane storage from northbound Kuykendahl Road to Woodlands Parkway.
Update: Engineering design was complete, and the project was being prepared for construction as of February, officials said.
Timeline: Construction will begin by the spring.

4. Grogan’s Mill Village Center signalization
Project: A traffic signal will be replaced at the intersection of Grogan’s Mill Road and the entrance to the Grogan’s Mill Village Center, according to Precinct 3.
Update: Engineering design was underway, and the project was starting the construction planning phase early this year, officials said.
Timeline: Construction is slated to begin this summer.
Cost: $52,500 (design)

5. Grogan’s Mill Road at North Millbend Drive intersection upgrade
Project: The project will redesign traffic signal and intersection layout, replace pavement and restripe the intersection, Precinct 3 officials said.
Update: The project was in the engineering design phase early this year.
Timeline: Construction is estimated to start in the summer.

6. Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard traffic signal
Project: The project will signalize the intersection and add left-turn lanes in both directions on Rayford Road.
Update: Engineering design was nearing completion in February.
Timeline: Construction is expected to begin in the summer.

Ongoing projects
6. Hwy. 242 widening
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent information released by TxDOT in late January, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 74% complete.
Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter of 2026
Cost: $29.11 million

7. Cochran’s Crossing Drive asphalt shoulder replacement
Project: The project will replace the asphalt shoulder from north of Palmer Woods Drive/Stronecroft Place to Research Forest Drive, including the section of Cochran’s Crossing Drive located north of Research Forest Drive.
Update: The project is under construction.
Timeline: Construction is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Cost: $700,000
