A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, some of which are funded by the Montgomery County road bond as well as ongoing projects from the Texas Department of Transportation. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
Ongoing projects
1. Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard traffic signal
Project: A traffic signal will be placed at the intersection, and the project will add left-turn lanes in both directions on Rayford Road.
Update: Turn lane construction and traffic signal installation are completed, and pedestrian ramps and striping are also completed, Montgomery County Precinct 3 officials said Aug. 7. Traffic signal activation will be completed by mid-August.

2. Grogan’s Mill Road at North Millbend Drive intersection upgrade
Project: The project will redesign the traffic signal and intersection layout, upgrade traffic signal facilities, replace pavement in the intersection and restripe the intersection.
Update: The intersection construction is complete, and pedestrian poles were being installed as of Aug. 7, county officials said. The permanent signal equipment was slated for delivery in mid-September to replace temporary poles.

3. Grogans Mill Road at Grogan's Mill Village Center traffic signal replacement
Project: The traffic signal at the entrance to the Grogan's Mill Village Center on Grogans Mill Road is being replaced.
Update: Engineering design is complete and the pavement has been cleared as of Aug. 7, Precinct 3 officials said. The signal pole and cabinet foundations were poured, with the curb scheduled for installation in August. Striping will be done in August or September, with signal equipment scheduled to be delivered in mid-September.

4. Hwy. 242 widening
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent update released by TxDOT, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 86% complete.
- Timeline: Oct. 23, 2023-fourth quarter 2026
- Cost: $29.11 million
- Funding sources: federal, state funds
5. Drainage improvements on I-45 feeder
Project: The project will construct drainage improvements on the northbound and southbound frontage roads of I-45 from Shenandoah Park Drive to Hwy. 242.
Update: Work on the project is 25% complete, according to a July update from TxDOT. The project is being completed by James Construction Group.

- Cost: $42.63 million
- Funding source: 80% federal and 20% state funding

6. Flintridge Drive turn-lane improvements
Project: Westbound Flintridge Drive will be widened between South Panther Creek Drive and Gosling Road, and lanes will be reconfigured, according to information from Precinct 3. Turn-lane storage will also be extended.
Update: Construction, striping, sign and signal adjustments were completed as of Aug. 7.

7. Woodlands Parkway asphalt shoulder replacement
Project: The project replaced asphalt shoulders between FM 2978 and I-45.
Update: The replacement project was completed as of an Aug. 7 update from Precinct 3.
