The Woodlands to open town hall Oct. 19, temperature check kiosks operating around township

On Oct. 19, The Woodlands Township’s town hall building on Technology Forest Boulevard will reopen to the public with special devices in place to allow guests and employees to be screened for fever and coronavirus risk before entering the building, the township announced Oct. 16.

The kiosks will be located at Town Hall, at the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Services campus, the Texas TreeVentures facility, Riva Row Boat House, Lakes Edge Boat House, the Recreation Center at Bear Branch Park and the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, according to a news release.

The device allows for a no-touch temperature screening that will notify visitors over the age of 6 if an elevated temperature—above 99.9 degrees—is detected, and if it is not, a badge will be printed that the individual can wear throughout their workday or visit, according to the township.

Those who record high temperatures will be asked to leave but can retake their temperature after five minutes or return on another day, according to the release.

Board of directors Chair Gordy Bunch explained and demonstrated the system and the social distancing arrangement in the board room in a video posted to the township's YouTube channel.

According to Nick Wolda, director of community relations for the township, the eight units were purchased from Wello Inc. and funded from the township's capital contingency reserve at a cost of $84,466.64. They will be submitted for reimbursement from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, he said.
