The Woodlands Township board of directors will meet Oct. 15 for its regular meeting and receive a quarterly report from law enforcement as well as reports from the Development Standards Committee and Village Presidents' Council.
Among the items on the consent agenda, which are typically approved in one motion, is an item to discuss and consider the first amendment to the interlocal cooperation agreement, or ILA, for fire protection services provided to the city of Shenandoah. The board will also discuss funding for the 2027 Parks and Recreation Department's Capital Improvement Projects.
Some context
The township first entered an interlocal cooperation agreement with the city of Shenandoah in 2011 to provide fire and emergency management services to residents there. According to ILA documents, after the first agreement expired at the end of 2021, the city and township entered into an agreement effective until Dec. 31, 2026, but they are now proposing to amend the fire protection ILA to make room for a more predictable funding model. This would also extend the terms and allow The Woodlands Fire Department to create a funding model for fire protection that uses the city’s preceding year of certified taxes at a fixed funding rate of $0.10 per $100 of net appraised value, according to agenda materials.
