DATA: The Woodlands' latest population, housing, workforce and education estimates

The Woodlands has continued to grow this decade, according to data released Dec. 19 in the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2018 American Community Survey 5-year estimates.

The population of The Woodlands rose more than 8% since the census’ 2013 5-year survey, and its resident total has climbed to nearly 110,000 people.

The area’s population has also grown slightly older in recent years. The census-estimated median age in The Woodlands was around 39.2 in 2013 and grew more than two years to 40.5 in 2018. In that time, the number of The Woodlands residents ages 65 and above rose from 10,774 to 14,021—a growth of 10.62% to 12.76% of the township’s total population share.

The Woodlands has also seen an increase in housing—and housing costs. The Woodlands added more than 5,000 new housing units from 2013 to 2018 accompanied by a rise in median housing values, especially over the past three years.

Alongside an increase in home values, the median household income in The Woodlands also rose around 11.81% from 2013 to 2018. The census’ estimated $118,836 median household income in The Woodlands remains well above Montgomery County’s estimated median income of $77,416. The figure is nearly double the median household income estimates for both Texas, at $59,570, and the U.S., at $60,293.

Just under half of The Woodlands was estimated to be employed with nearly 51,000 residents in the workforce, according to the census’ 2018 survey. Most occupational categories listed by the census bureau saw increases in their employment totals since 2013 as well.

Among The Woodlands residents ages 25 and older, the vast majority graduated from high school. The township’s bachelor’s degree attainment rate has slightly increased since 2013.
