Chevron Phillips Chemical celebrates 25 years, opens new headquarters in The Woodlands

Chevron Phillips Chemical celebrated its 25th anniversary during the official unveiling of its new headquarters space in The Woodlands July 16.

During the event, held at the new headquarters at 9500 Lakeside Blvd. in The Woodlands, current and former Chevron Phillips Chemical, or CPChem, executives discussed the history and future of the company.

"We really have a privilege today, and that is that we're here at the confluence of two momentous events in the life of CPChem," CPChem President and CEO Steve Prusak said during the event. "Throughout the past 25 years, we've been blessed to be able to grow through the support of our owners, the hard work of our employees ... I also firmly believe that it's our values and that innovative mindset that we possess, and the drive that I think that CPChem has deep down in its heart, that it allows us to thrive."

CPChem was founded in 2000 through a merger between Chevron Corp. and Phillips 66, according to Prusak, and established offices in The Woodlands in 2002. The company established its global headquarters in The Woodlands in 2023.

"The spirit of everyone who works here has shaped a company that now operates more than 30 manufacturing research facilities, employs over 5,000 people on four continents and serves nearly 3,000 customers," Phillips 66 Chairman and CEO Mark Lashier said. "Headquarters is more than a building. It's really a signal that CPChem is not just keeping pace with what's going on out there, but you're setting the pace for [the] future of work and the future of innovation."

The new facility is 360,000 square feet and features meeting room spaces, pickleball courts and energy-efficient lighting and materials throughout the building. As part of the ceremony, CPChem also received proclamations from State Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe; State Rep. Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands; and The Woodlands Township.

• "A lot of people here don't realize the history we have [in The Woodlands] with oil and gas. Our first corporation located here was Mitchell Energy and Development Company," said township board chair Brad Bailey. "This community would have never been built without oil and gas ... oil and gas and energy is in our DNA and what we do."
